DRUG DEFENSE IN MEMPHIS & SHELBY COUNTY

Understand the charge.
Look closely at the evidence.

The substance, amount, alleged conduct, and circumstances all matter. Jay handles allegations involving marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, prescription medications, and other controlled substances.

Drug possession

Cases involving drugs allegedly found on a person, in a vehicle, or in a home. The defense may turn on knowledge, control, and how the evidence was obtained.

Possession with intent

Allegations that drugs were intended for sale or delivery. The amount, packaging, communications, and surrounding circumstances deserve careful review.

Sale & delivery

Cases involving an alleged transaction or transfer, including controlled buys. Identification, recordings, witness accounts, and the handling of evidence can matter.

Manufacturing & related charges

Manufacturing, cultivation, drug paraphernalia, and related allegations. Each charge requires attention to what the State must prove and the evidence supporting it.

PREPARATION WITH A PURPOSE

A police report is
where the questions begin.

A defense starts with your account and a careful examination of the available evidence. Depending on the facts, these are some of the questions Jay will evaluate.

Was the stop or search lawful?

Examine the reason for the stop, the length of detention, any warrant or claimed consent, and the circumstances of the search. A suppression motion may be appropriate when evidence was obtained unlawfully.

What connects you to the drugs?

Review who had access to the location, what officers observed, and the evidence of knowledge and control. Being near drugs does not, by itself, establish possession.

What does the testing establish?

Examine available laboratory results, the alleged substance and weight, and the collection and handling of the evidence. Identify missing records and questions requiring further investigation.

What supports the alleged intent?

Look beyond the charge to the evidence of sale or delivery. Assess the amount and other circumstances together, then discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and available options.

YOUR FREEDOM. YOUR FUTURE.

A charge does not define your future.

Get clear advice about the evidence, the risks, and the decisions ahead. Call Jay For Justice to plan your next step.

START WITH WHAT YOU KNOW

Your defense starts
with a conversation.

Have an upcoming court date?

Gather your citation, arrest paperwork, bond documents, and court notices. When you contact the firm, provide the charge, court, case number if known, next court date, and custody status.

You do not need every document to request an appointment. Mention an approaching hearing or deadline when you call.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about your drug case.

Is a drug charge a felony or misdemeanor?

It depends on the specific offense, substance, amount, and other legally relevant circumstances. Simple possession and possession with intent are different offenses. Jay can review the charging documents and explain the classification and potential consequences that apply to your case.

What if the drugs were not mine?

Ownership and possession are different questions. A case may involve allegations of actual or constructive possession. The evidence of knowledge, control, and access needs careful review; being nearby alone is not enough to establish possession.

Can a search be challenged?

Potentially. A lawyer can examine the stop, detention, warrant, consent, and any claimed exception to the warrant requirement. Whether you can challenge the search and whether evidence can be excluded depend on the facts and applicable law. A challenge does not guarantee dismissal.

What if this is my first charge?

Tell Jay about your history and the exact charge. He can evaluate whether diversion, treatment, or another alternative may be available. Eligibility and approval depend on the offense, your circumstances, and applicable law; no option or outcome is guaranteed.

How much does representation cost?

Fees depend on the charge, stage of the case, and work involved. Contact the firm to discuss the proposed scope and fees. The engagement agreement will identify the representation being undertaken.
